Mortgage lending was down 9% in January and February this year, compared with 2014, as stated by the CML (Council of Mortgage Lending). However the good news is that house buying sentiment has improved in March and hopefully a good seasonal market will now return, as it usually does each year, in recent times. There has been some speculation as to whether the market has been depressed by the coming General Election, but as neither of the two main party’s have any policies that should affect the market, it is unlikely that that would have been the reason. The housing market tends to feed on itself and confidence returns, when it is observed that other people are moving. It is certainly a good time to move, whilst prices are holding at a reasonable level and there are ample mortgage offers available. If you are thinking of moving during 2015, there will be no better time.
